You can try configuring a workflow rule for your use case. Based on the condition you define, the workflow rule could trigger an email notification to the recipients defined in the rule.
You can define workflow rules under Administrator -> Workflow Rules.
Depending on your scenario, you can either schedule a rule, or trigger it once when the opportunity is created or on every save.
Try it out, hopefully you will be able to use this feature for your scenario.
